Golfing, Culver Style

Not intended to be my first post but I can't find it, so in honor of this Labor Day weekend, a change in season usually punctuated with a fond farewell.

Golfing, Culver Style
A story about a game I love and the place I learned to play.

You were my first time
What a treat!
To go for a ride seemed at first enough
Until you took over, elusive and seductive
Anxious anticipation as we pull out and look at you, the first hole,
Waiting for us, calling us like a siren
Torture to look upon you at times
So close, another care free round
How long would we have to wait?.
Get a group together,
What’s up partner?
I’ll drive.
A couple of drinks…sure
Maybe a stereo!
Let’s roll,
A nod and your up
Safe in the thought, no matter how cruel you were
That we were close to home
Perhaps a dip in the lake
Like a good friend I hit predictably around you,
Various shades of green, pushing white dimpled balls
Sometimes consumed, hidden
I’ll just take a muligan

Finely cut grass and rounded edges
Big trees and wide open spaces,
And now you have sparked fire
A life’s ambition

Marking the seasons

Longing for spring,
Lamenting the delay
You are what I crave most about the changing seasons
A cure for fever
But you will come.
Morning rounds filled with freshly fallen dew, keeping time

Summer’s late night solstice
One more hole as dusk falls

Fall’s cool crisp covers a seasons close

Winter’s longing

We wait, the ride and ride out in pursuit
Fresh with hope for that feeling that keeps us coming back for more.
Bonus-pee where you like
Sun screen and glasses optional but recommended....

So clean your balls
Don’t forget to wear a glove,
Tie up your laces
Grab your sticks
And step up to the tee box
It’s go time.
What a view!
Thank you,
the place that started it all, I will never forget you.
