The Most Important Thing You Haven't Read

I love this sort of analysis that cuts through all the daily news noise with a view towards strategic initiatives setting a new course while breaking down and highlighting the limitations of the institutionalized system.  So here is,  A National Strategic Narrative , published under a pseudonym, Mr Y, but the individuals, two current members of the Joint Chiefs, deserve to be allowed to speak freely in the press to continue the conversation not just among "policy elites" but the broader public.  Our current crisis has many "villains" but no single one as important as the compromises and the trade offs we make to maintain the current strategic system.  Decades of institutional growth by vested interests and their increasingly apparent limitations and  set backs deserve the spotlight this paper puts on them.  Similarly, the changing nature of externalities requires that we rethink our goals and the role of the state and strategic initiatives.  Let's hope it happens so that the public can begin to appreciate alternatives to our current outdated and ineffective grand strategy and better outcomes for ALL Americans.
